With the Clippers trading Chris Paul to the Rockets, will Carmelo join his friend in an attempt to dethrone the reigning champs?

On Wednesday the Rockets made a big splash when they traded away Patrick Beverly, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker and a first round pick in order to land Chris Paul.

This is all in an attempt to dethrone the Warriors and get to the NBA Finals, and the Rockets are

as close as they’ve ever been.

Immediately after the trade the Rockets chances of winning the championship in the 2017-18 season went from 30-1 to 15-1. Here’s what Rockets GM Daryl Morey had to say following the trade and where they stand with the Warriors:

"“It’s a weapons race in the NBA, you’re either in the weapons race or on the sidelines. We felt like this is, with James Harden in his prime and Chris Paul in his prime, this gives us a real shot to chase the juggernaut teams that are out there. It puts us right there with them, so we’re very excited to have Chris. He’s such an unbelievable player. We think he and James and our core .. we really feel like we have something special here in Houston.”"

So what does this trade mean for Carmelo Anthony and his situation? With Phil Jackson and the Knicks parting ways we’re not quite sure what this offseason has in store but one thing seems for sure. The Knicks are not going to buy out Carmelo Anthony.

However, they have not ruled out trading him. It has been rumored since the trade deadline this past season that the Knicks and Carmelo Anthony were not going to make it through the end of his contract.
