2B Starlin Castro

.313/.348/.486, 12 HR, 45 RBI, 1.6 WAR

Although injuries may have cost Sabathia and Hicks shots at the All-Star game, Castro’s recent injury shouldn’t keep him from making the American League roster.

Castro is seventh in the AL in batting average and his 92 hits rank fifth-best in the Junior Circuit.

The former Chicago Cub ranks in the top five in all major categories among American League second basemen.

José Altuve will almost assuredly win the fan vote to start at second, but Castro should be the top choice as a backup.

Castro landed on the disabled list Tuesday with a hamstring strain, but he expects to be back on the field before the All-Star break.

Starlin has been a consistent hitter in the middle of the Yankee lineup. Putting together possibly the best year of his career, Castro deserves an All-Star nod.
