With 2B Starlin Castro headed to the 10-day disabled list, Triple-A infielder Tyler Wade gets promoted to the big league club.

The injury bug continues to bite the Bronx Bombers. Second baseman Starlin Castro has landed on the disabled list with a hamstring strain.

Castro left Monday night’s game against the White Sox with the leg injury. The Yankees then put him on the DL prior to Tuesday night’s contest.

This injury comes just days after outfielder Aaron Hicks hit the shelf with an oblique strain and starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia has been on the disabled list the last few weeks with a hamstring strain of his own.

Starlin Castro is in the middle of a career year, hitting .313 with 12 home runs. However, an apparent wrist injury has caused Castro to struggle of late with the second baseman hitting just .182 over the past seven days.

The Yankees have lost 10 of their last 13 games, and their win Monday did not come easy.

With Matt Holliday still sidelined from an allergic reaction, Castro’s injury leaves yet another hole in a lineup that has been one of the best in baseball to this point in the season.

Ronald Torreyes mans second base in Tuesday night’s lineup, but it is super utility man Tyler Wade who gets the promotion to the Bronx in Castro’s absence.

While at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Wade played second base, third base, shortstop, and all three outfield positions.

Wade was my top choice to replace Chase Headley at third base, but with Headley hitting .333 in June, the utility man will replace the injured Castro instead.

The 22-year-old seemed to have mastered hitting in Triple-A, slashing .313/.390/.444 with 59 runs scored and 24 stolen bases. Wade has been one of the best hitters in the entire International League so far this year.

Wade is number eleven on MLB.com‘s New York Yankees top 30 prospect list. His promotion has been something I personally have been looking forward to for some time.

Now that he is in pinstripes, Wade will need to hit the ground running. Wade joins a New York team that has been struggling of late.

Manager Joe Girardi said that Ronald Torreyes will start the next few days due to the White Sox starting left-handed pitchers and Tyler Wade being a left-handed hitter. However, with Wade’s defensive versatility, we may see him out there soon.

The Yankees need to put multiple wins together and get back on track.

Hopefully, Tyler Wade can help New York do just that and maintain their AL East lead.
