3. Mike Moustakas, Kansas City Royals

On an underwhelming Royals team, Moustakas is in the middle of possibly the best year of his career.

The Kansas City third baseman was an All-Star in 2015, putting together a 22 HR/82 RBI season while hitting .284. Moustakas then hit 7 HRs in the first 27 games of 2016, but a torn ACL prematurely ended his season.

The man they call “Moose” is back on track in 2017, hitting .276 with 19 HRs and 46 RBIs.

Not only would Moustakas be an upgrade for New York’s lineup, he should also fit in with the Yankees’ youth movement.

“Moose” was a big part of the young and fun environment of the 2014-2015 Royals that went to back-to-back World Series and won it all in 2015.

Being a part of those Royals teams, Moustakas knows how to not only win but how to turn a young core into a championship team.

If the Baby Bombers hit another rough patch like their recent West Coast trip, Moustakas could keep them confident, as he was a part of some frustrating Royals teams in 2011 and 2012 before finding success.

Kansas City may be heading towards similar struggles as 2011 and 2012. The Royals are 35-36 and a small market team. This combination usually signals the start of a rebuild. This rebuild would come much sooner than fans expected after their 2014-2015 success.

With a big piece of their core set to hit free agency after the season, a trade deadline fire sale may be on the horizon.

The price for Moustakas would likely be a little more than for Beltre or Nunez. However, top prospects Gleyber Torres, Clint Frazier, and Blake Rutherford would all be safe.

As well as I think “Moose” would fit in with this Yankee team, I still think it’s a positive that Moustakas is a rental player.

I, like most Yankee fans, can’t wait to see Gleyber Torres in pinstripes.

The 28-year-old Moustakas can help the Yankees compete for a World Series title in 2017 before making way for Gleyber Torres to be the third baseman in New York for 2018 and beyond.
