New York Yankees top prospect Gleyber Torres left his last game with a hyper-extended left elbow. His absence will allow for some players to show their worth in the coming weeks.

The New York Yankees organization will be suffering a big blow with the absence of Gleyber Torres due to a hyper-extended elbow injury.

Torres was hurt playing for minor league affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but rumors of his call-up have been circulating for some time now.

Now at first glance of this headline I’m sure most are thinking, “What is he saying? This guy isn’t even in the majors yet!”

To that I say, you’re correct.

I understand he isn’t in the majors yet, but the pressure he puts on this organization is huge. His talent is shining so far this year, and it makes guys in the majors realize they are playing for their jobs everyday.

Torres’s injury is only placing him on the seven-day disabled list, but that time could be so valuable for guys riding the struggle bus this season. It gives them time to turn it around and keep their job a little while longer until Torres is officially ready for the majors.

There are three players on the roster that could really benefit from Torres hitting the DL. Some more than others will have to have a good stretch this week to prove it’s not time for Torres to take over at the hot corner.
