With C.C. Sabathia Headed to the DL, Who Will Step Up for the Yankees?
By Sean Dyer
Ronald Herrera
Herrera made the jump from Double-A right to the majors when he was called up on Wednesday.
The youngster took the loss in his MLB debut, however, after giving up a two-run homer to Andrelton Simmons. He gave up just those two runs over two innings of work, surrendering two hits, walking one batter, hitting another, and striking out two.
The reason Herrera got the call to the big league club without pitching in Triple-A this season was his dominant performance in Double-A.
Over eight starts, Herrera was 7-0 with 1.07 ERA and 0.75 WHIP.
The Yankees clearly see something in this kid, but do they see enough to make him their fifth starter?
Well, Herrera was sent back down to Double-A on Thursday, so we may not see him for a little while.
Herrera will likely rejoin the Thunder rotation so he can stay stretched out and ready if the Yankees come calling in need of a spot start.
