With C.C. Sabathia Headed to the DL, Who Will Step Up for the Yankees?
By Sean Dyer
Domingo Germán
Germán was originally expected to make his first MLB start when he was called up this past Sunday. However as previously mentioned, Chad Green ended up starting.
Germán did make an appearance on Sunday, throwing 2.2 shutout innings allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out one. In his relief appearance, Germán was touching 99 mph with his fastball and showed a good breaking ball.
During his nine minor league starts in 2017, Germán has a 3.34 ERA and a 65-17 strikeout to walk ratio in 59.1 innings.
Germán was sent back down on Monday, but according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com, he has already been called back up to the majors.
Although Joe Girardi says Luis Cessa will start at some point this weekend, Germán getting called back up so quickly bodes well for his chances to possibly get a shot in the rotation.
