The New York Giants have secured first round pick Evan Engram to his rookie contract. Will the tight end shine in his first year?
The New York Giants signed Evan Engram to his rookie deal on Thursday. With the first round tight end under contract, the Giants have now signed all six of their 2017 draft picks.
According to Art Stapleton, Engram’s contract is for four years and worth $10.71 million with a $5.935 million signing bonus.
Engram joins wide receiver Brandon Marshall as the new additions to an offense that already featured Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard.
The Giants hope that Engram can beat defenses up the seam in 2017. The G-men struggled against Cover 2 in 2016 because they didn’t have anyone that could bust the seam.
According to Sports Reference, the former Ole Miss tight end caught 65 passes in 2016 for 926 yards (14.2 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns.
Engram’s 4.42 second 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine was the fastest among tight ends and faster than all but four wide receivers in this year’s draft class.
At 6’3″, 234 lb. Engram is not much of an inline blocker. Some Giants fans were hoping to get a complete tight end in the draft, such as Alabama’s O.J. Howard.

The Giants drafted Engram to give quarterback Eli Manning a new weapon. Now that he is under contract, Giants fans can start dreaming of what this loaded offense can do.
Between Beckham Jr., Marshall, Shepard, and Engram, there won’t be enough defenders to go around. At least that’s what the Giants are hoping.
With a defense that ranked second in point allowed per game in 2016, the Giants hope that the offense can pick up its play so New York can compete for a Super Bowl in 2017.
Signing Evan Engram is just another step towards that goal.
