New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom put forth a dominant outing against the Chicago Cubs. If the Mets want a shot in the second half, he needs to continue these types of performances.

New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom dismantled the Chicago Cubs last night, but he needs to do much more for the team to continue its success.

deGrom had everything working, and made the Cubs look silly. His fastball clocked in the upper 90s, and his changeup was baffling.

Look, it’s no secret the New York Mets are struggling in the 2017 season. That being said, there is still time for them to turn it around.

With a little over half of the season left, the Mets need to find some sort of spark. A guy like deGrom can definitely provide that light. He is a smart and savvy pitcher that is capable of lighting up a stat sheet.

His ability to work around some of the league’s best hitters last night was very impressive. If he keeps it going, he will be tough to stop down the stretch.

The Mets got some much needed help from the bats, but lets face facts.

The New York Mets are not going to rake in that many runs from game to game. They need a starter like deGrom to drive a game in the late innings.

By going the distance last night, deGrom proved he is worthy to bring this team out of the gutter. He is one of the best pitchers in the MLB, and he just has to continue that sort of dominance the rest of the way.

It will not be easy, especially with such a long distance to a playoff run.

If the New York Mets want a shot at a run, it starts with Jacob deGrom’s consistency.
