New York Yankees starter CC Sabathia is finding youth so far in 2017. After a stellar outing against the Red Sox, could he be considered for the Cy Young Award?

The New York Yankees could not ask anything more of CC Sabathia thus far in 2017.

The veteran of the Yankees starting staff was dazzling last night against the Red Sox. He put up eight shutout innings in a winning effort.

The big man is 7-2 on the season, and sports a 3.66 ERA, which should put him in the Cy Young conversation.

The Cy Young denotes the best pitcher in the league. Sabathia’s statistics are comparable to the best in the league, and he’s dominating.

I’ve always been a firm believer that stats are driving, but the true winner of the Cy Young should be determined by big-game situations. If Sabathia keeps pitching dominantly in big games, then he needs to be talked about more.

Now obviously the league won’t want to give two Yankees awards. Aaron Judge is the odds on favorite for Rookie of the Year, and he has something Sabathia doesn’t. He’s exciting.

Like it or not, as fiery as CC is, he doesn’t excite the young demographic of the league anymore. The MLB is banking on young guys like Judge, and I’d even go so far as to put Chris Sale in that category. They need better ratings, and a old dog like Sabathia just doesn’t provide that curb appeal.

It’s a sin, but Sabathia won’t get much talk, even if he deserves it.

He is the backbone of the pitching staff of one of the best team’s in the league. The problem is, old dogs don’t get their day in the MLB anymore.

Sabathia deserves a look for Cy Young, and we can only hope he gets it.
