The New York Jets are getting set to get rid of wide receiver Eric Decker. Most think this is a detriment, but it could be a key to success.

New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker better buy his one-way ticket to free agent nation by the end of the week.

Per Adam Schefter, it looks like Gang Green is looking to shop or chop their Pro Bowl wide out.

Jets fans might not be entirely thrilled with the deal, but really, it could be a good move. Decker is a hardworking player, and has raw talent, but the Jets have to start the rebuild now.

Decker’s contract eats up a good amount of cap space, and if they trade for him, they would be able to negate a ton of it. The only thing is, Decker doesn’t have big trade market value at the moment. He just crossed the 30 threshold, making him “old” in the eyes of the NFL.

Bryce Petty looks to be the starter this year, and he could be the future of the organization. If the Jets could get him some young outside talent to grow with, that could be very threatening.

Petty has the pedigree of a winner, and he has potential to take the New York Jets into a new era. Personally, I think Decker could hold back the growth of Petty, and that’s a problem.

Petty doesn’t need Decker to succeed, and as much as it would help, it’s just the business end of the ball.

Money is the driving force of this league now. It is sad, but it is true.

Cheap options, and easy fixes are the NFL’s bread and butter, and it’s the case with this Decker move.

The New York Jets are making a good move here, and I stand by that.
