New York Yankees starter Luis Severino is setting himself up to be an ace in the coming seasons. Could his nod come sooner than most think?

New York Yankees fans should start buying their Luis Severino jersey now.

Severino is dominating batters, and going deep into games. He is showing all of the qualities of a growing ace in the Majors.

We can talk all we want about Masahiro Tanaka, but at the end of the day, Severino is the future. He has the stuff, and he has the poise to be the next number one of the New York Yankees.

He covers all the bases of being a true ace, but it will be interesting to see if he develops a sense of leadership.

One thing Yankees fans have been lucky to see are some good aces throughout the 2000s. CC Sabathia is probably the best in recent years when it comes to showing that leadership.

This is a guy that when he was an ace, he would watch every game from the top of the dugout. He would talk to every guy, and show that he was larger than life. He was New York City.

Now it’s Severino’s turn to learn how to do it.

Tanaka doesn’t preach that leadership, and the biggest hindrance is the language barrier. Severino has to grow into a pitcher more like Sabathia.

Dominant primary stuff, great secondary pitches, and a love for the game that not many have shown before.

Severino has the pitching ability, but he has to gain that loud love for New York. He is on the brink of being the ace of this staff, and it’ll be interesting to see his growth moving forward.

New York is his town, and he has to go out and take it.
