New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino had another great start Tuesday night against the Baltimore Orioles.

The New York Yankees offense has received a lot of attention this season, and rightfully so. The Yankees offense has been outstanding all season. Coming into Tuesday, the Yankees were seventh in the major leagues in runs scored with 256. They are seventh in slugging percentage and are tied for fifth in home runs.

Aaron Judge has been in plenty of headlines, as he leads the MLB with 17 home runs. The Yankees offense was on full display against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, as they scored another eight runs in a victory.

While the offense garners all of the headlines, the pitching staff has stepped up at times as well. The bullpen has done well despite Aroldis Chapman landing on the disabled list. While veterans such as C.C. Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka have struggled at times they have had others step up. One of those other players is Luis Severino.

More from New York Yankees

Severino came on strong as a rookie in 2015. There were high expectations for him heading into 2016, but he fell woefully short. Severino had a 5.83 ERA last season, being moved to the bullpen at one point. He had to earn his spot in the rotation for 2017 in Spring Training. Not only did he earn that spot, he has looked like the best starting pitcher on the team.

Severino’s dominance continued against the Orioles on Tuesday. Severino pitched 6.1 innings, striking out eight Orioles. He allowed seven hits and one walk, which resulted in only one run scored.

It was another great outing for Severino, who has really gotten things together in 2017. Tuesday night’s performance dropped Severino’s ERA to 2.93 on the season. He has 77 strikeouts in 67.2 innings pitched against only 16 walks. Severino has allowed more than three earned runs in a game only twice; he has allowed three or fewer runs in five consecutive starts.

This is the exact type of performance the Yankees were hoping to receive from Severino last year. His continued breakout has come a year later, but the Yankees cannot be happier about how things have gone this season.

Severino has looked like the ace of the staff this season. If the other veterans can get on track as well, the Yankees will be an even more dangerous team. Their offense will keep them in plenty of games; getting more performances like the one Tuesday from Severino will help them win more.
