Knicks Rumors: Early interest in P.J. Tucker and Dante Cunningham
By Nick Ziegler
Recent New York Knicks rumors have been about their plan for free agency. As of now, they appear to have their eyes on two forwards.
With the offseason getting closer and closer, Knicks rumors are starting to swirl about potential targets this offseason.
Even though the Knicks had a lot of cap space last season, they failed to make the splashes they would have liked. The biggest signing for them turned out to be a disaster, as Joakim Noah didn’t provide them with anything last season.
Coming into this offseason, the Knicks have a good amount of salary cap space as well. With a lot of uncertainty surrounding Carmelo Anthony and his future in New York, signing some small forwards is certainly a possibility.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN.com, the Knicks are interested in P.J. Tucker and Dante Cunningham. Here’s what Begley had to say about the Knicks’ interest in the two forwards.
"The club has preliminary interest in veteran free agent P.J. Tucker, per league sources. Jeff Hornacek coached Tucker in Phoenix and praised him last season as a strong locker-room leader and intense defender. Tucker shot 35.7 percent from beyond the arc last season, including a 40 percent clip after being traded to the Toronto Raptors.New York has also shown preliminary interest in New Orleans Pelicans forward and free-agent-to-be Dante Cunningham, per sources."
One of the reasons for the struggles of the Knicks was that they couldn’t stop anyone last season. Prior to the Knicks falling apart last season, they did express interest in Tucker. As a former player of Hornacek, Tucker would be a welcomed addition to the team.
Like Tucker, Cunningham would help the Knicks on the defensive end. While both would be best-suited coming off the bench, they could be replacements if Anthony is traded.

With the direction of the Knicks being uncertain, signing free agents is going to be a challenge. While offering more money than other teams will help, New York is no longer a desirable place to play.
