Thomas Greiss

After coming on strong in the 2015-16 season, Greiss earned himself a much larger role for the Islanders in the 2016-17 season. Greiss was really good for the Islanders in the playoffs the season before, and he continued to play well last season.

In the 2016-17 season, Greiss totaled 26-18-5 record, .913 save percentage, and 2.69 GAA. While the numbers were down a bit for Greiss compared to the season before, he was still the best option for the Islanders.

One of the weaknesses for Greiss was his consistency. In 49 games, he had 11 starts with a save percentage below .850. Compared to the season before, he only had two starts that were that poor. Unfortunately, there were a lot of hit or miss games for Greiss last season. This could also be due to the Islanders asking him to play quite a bit because of the struggles of Berube, who served as the backup for a while.

The Islanders did recently give Greiss an extension, as he should be the favorite to be the starter next season. Even though Greiss wasn’t bad last season, the Islanders could use him to find his form of the 2015-16 season.
