New York Yankees: 3 Pitchers who have to step up with Aroldis Chapman injured
By Nick Ziegler
The New York Yankees will be without closer Aroldis Chapman after he was placed on the DL. Who are three pitchers that need to step up?
On Sunday afternoon, the New York Yankees received some bad news about their closer Aroldis Chapman. Chapman could be sidelined for up to a month with shoulder inflammation, and that is concerning for the Yankees.
After a month and a half of baseball, the Yankees are one of the best teams in the American League. Having a dominant closer like Chapman has helped them achieve that, but something was clearly wrong.
In his last two outings, Chapman was not himself, as he really struggled against the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros. Now, Chapman will be heading to the DL. After trading Chapman to the Cubs last season, the Yankees signed him to a long-term contract in the offseason.
During the Cubs’ postseason run, Chapman was used quite a bit. His shoulder inflammation could be because of how much he was used by Chicago. Now, the Yankees will be trying to survive without one of their best players.
With Chapman going down, other players are going to have to step up for the Yankees. Even though they have had a great start to the season, some pitchers are underperforming for the Yankees. With Chapman being out, the Yankees have to find a way to close games out.
Hopefully, for the Yankees, Chapman won’t be out long. However, here are three players that must step up with Chapman out.
