Number One: Jeter’s Final At-Bat at Yankee Stadium

This had to be the number one play in Jeter’s career without a doubt.

Jeter kicked off the game with an RBI double to deep left center, but it would be far from Jeter’s best hit of the day.

Everyone and their mother knew it would be Jeter’s last game at the stadium, but no one knew he would go out in such a grand fashion. There was a palpable feeling of nervousness and excitement throughout the game.

As the game entered the ninth inning the Yankees lead the Orioles by three runs. It almost felt underwhelming. I felt like if then closer David Robertson closed it out then it would’ve been a nice way for Jeter to go out, but not historic.

Robertson then had the best blown save in Yankees history.

He allowed the Orioles to tie the game, and everyone realized that Derek Jeter was due up third in the bottom half of the ninth.

Antoan Richardson got on base, Brett Gardner bunted him over to second, setting up Derek Jeter to put an exclamation point on his career.

In classic Jeter fashion, he slaps the ball the other way, Richardson rounds third and scores to give the Yankees the win.

Every Yankees fan remembers where they were as Jeter jumped in the air in-between first and second base.

Watching Jeter walk around the stadium and thinking, “This is it,” is something Yankee fans will live with forever.

It was the only way Jeter deserved to go out. A winner.
