New York Yankees: Derek Jeter’s Top Five career moments
Number Four: Mr. November
The attacks on September 11, 2001 caused the baseball post season to be pushed back a week, and resulted in the first time baseball would be played in November.
The New York Yankees were not only playing for a World Series, but they were playing for a city still recovering from tragedy. Who better to launch New York into triumph than the captain himself.
Jeter came up as the clock struck midnight. He had a nine-pitch at-bat at against Diamondbacks reliever Byung-hyun Kim that ended the only way Jeter would end it.
He hit a tailor-made line drive over the short porch for a walk off homerun.
The homerun earned Jeter the nickname, “Mr. November”. Although the Yankees would lose the series, the moment earned Jeter nationwide recognition.
He is well-regarded as one of the best post season players of all time, and that’s why this moment cracks the top five.
