Offensive Lineman Jessamen Dunker; Tennessee State

Arguably the best undrafted free agent that the Giants landed was Jessamen Dunker. Of all of the undrafted players the Giants brought in, he may have the highest ceiling. Dunker brings a lot to the table that coaches will like.

He has a ton of experience. He made 40 career starts at Tennessee State at left guard and left tackle; his final season was played at left tackle. Dunker began his career at Florida but was dismissed after his first year. The dismissal largely stemmed from an arrest for third-degree grand theft of a scooter and driving with a suspended license in January 2013.

That is part of the character concerns that Dunker brings along with him. He was a pretty highly rated prospect in this year’s class, as Mel Kiper had him as the sixth-best guard and 164th player overall. Despite the high ranking, he fell out of the draft altogether in large part because of his off-field concerns.

If the Giants can keep Dunker on the straight and narrow, they could have a player on their hands. His versatility already gives him an edge as he has experience at both guard and tackle. He is a competitor and has good play recognition on the field. Dunker makes good use of film study, as he is able to retain information from meetings and put it to use on the field.

That shows that he is a coachable player. If a player is willing to learn, he always has a chance to succeed. Dunker has the talent and work ethic to make it in the NFL. The question for him is if he can stay out of trouble.
