The New York Jets are in the middle of a rebuild heading into the 2017 season. For Quincy Enunwa, that means a chance to shine.
Coming into 2017, expectations are low for the New York Jets. After being one of the worst teams in the NFL last season, the Jets don’t appear to be an any better heading into 2017.
Even though they are projected to struggle, they do have some players that have a chance to shine. One of those players is wide receiver, Quincy Enunwa. Last season, Enunwa had his breakout year for the Jets. He was able to total 58 receptions, 857 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns.
The strong season for Enunwa certainly played a part in the Jets moving on from Brandon Marshall in the offseason. As his main competition for targets last season, Enunwa now might emerge into the No.1 receiver for the Jets.
"“This year I think I’m going to have an opportunity to a lot more than I was able to do last year,” he said to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.com. “Last year, I was kind of put in almost a box. I wouldn’t be able to do the stuff everyone else was doing because we had guys who were capable of doing it. So now everybody’s on a level field. I can go out there and compete and show myself the X position, and hope that I can do more this year.”"
One of the great things about Enunwa is his ability to line up all over the field. The Jets used him in multiple spots last season, and his size and strength allowed him to be able to succeed in most of them.
Even though Marshall is gone, Eric Decker will be returning from injury for the 2017 season. The injury to Decker last season certainly helped Enunwa’s rise, as there were more passes thrown his way.
The combination of Decker and Enunwa figures to be a pretty good one still for the Jets. With a lot of uncertainties at the quarterback position, the Jets will be relying on their wide receivers to make plays.

For Enunwa, he has the chance to reach the 1,000 receiving yard plateau in 2017 if there is better play from the quarterback position. For a former sixth round pick, that would be a huge accomplishment. After a strong 2016 season, seeing how Enunwa responds to a larger role will be storyline to monitor for the Jets next season.
