Okay, by record, the Baltimore Orioles are the best team in baseball. Their pitching has been dominant, their hitting is consistent, and their bullpen is good.
It also helps that Mark Trumbo is one of baseball’s best power hitters this season. Just last night he drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the 12th.
The Yankees are hanging with the Orioles, but something is going to have to give in order to push the Bombers to the top.
Last night showed that the problem for the New York Yankees is going to be consistent pitching. CC Sabathia got roughed up a little bit last night, and the offense only generated five runs. Of course, the team is still recovering from a marathon matchup against the Chicago Cubs.
The opening for the Yanks comes in the form of closer Zach Britton. More specifically, the Orioles will be without their star closer for 45-60 days.
