New York Yankees: AL East continues to be a two team race

The New York Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball, but the Baltimore Orioles continue to hang with them. Can the Yanks find a way to pull away from the O’s?

The New York Yankees are one of baseball’s best team’s… problem is, the best team in baseball is also in the AL East.

Okay, by record, the Baltimore Orioles are the best team in baseball. Their pitching has been dominant, their hitting is consistent, and their bullpen is good.

It also helps that Mark Trumbo is one of baseball’s best power hitters this season. Just last night he drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the 12th.

The Yankees are hanging with the Orioles, but something is going to have to give in order to push the Bombers to the top.

Last night showed that the problem for the New York Yankees is going to be consistent pitching. CC Sabathia got roughed up a little bit last night, and the offense only generated five runs. Of course, the team is still recovering from a marathon matchup against the Chicago Cubs.

The opening for the Yanks comes in the form of closer Zach Britton. More specifically, the Orioles will be without their star closer for 45-60 days.

Look, a closer doesn’t define a team, but when a team can’t give the ball to a go-to guy in the ninth, that could be detrimental.

An opening is exactly what the Yankees need to shoot past the surging Orioles.  The AL East could be the best division in baseball, and it all starts with this matchup.

The atmosphere when the O’s come to town is going to be nothing short of electric. It will be jam-packed with youth, intensity, and just elite baseball. They’re reminding everyone out there that baseball is a game, and a fun one at that.
