New York Giants: Ryan Clady named a good fit for Big Blue
By Nick Ziegler
With the NFL Draft over, the New York Giants will begin to look for veterans to add prior to the start of the season. Who is a great fit for them in free agency?
Coming into the 2017 season, the New York Giants are a team that is going to be in the playoff hunt in the NFC. Last season, the Giants lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers.
One of the reasons for some of the struggles for the Giants was because of their offensive line. Even though Eli Manning has had a great career, he isn’t known for his mobility, and he needs a good pocket to throw from.
Recently, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com went over the list of the remaining free agents. For the Giants, left tackle Ryan Clady was named as a perfect fit for them in free agency. Here’s what he had to say about Clady.
"Ferguson’s Jets replacement unsurprisingly showed he couldn’t stay healthy, and he’ll have to take a make-good deal somewhere until he does that.Best fit: New York Giants. If healthy, he’d certainly be an upgrade over Ereck Flowers. The Giants just don’t seem to be looking for that."
Injuries have been a major issue for Clady the past few years, but he was once a very good left tackle. If Clady is able to stay healthy, he could be a better option than Flowers at left tackle. However, we haven’t seen a healthy Clady.
While Flowers is still young, he hasn’t developed the way the Giants would have liked. Due to the Giants being in a win-now mode, they need Flowers to improve in his third season. Even though Clady has been hurt, adding him shouldn’t cost the Giants too much money.

Adding some competition for Flowers at left tackle might help him reach his potential. Even though Clady isn’t the ideal answer, he should certainly be considered by the Giants.
