The New York Yankees had to hold of the Cubs last night in 18 innings. With the win they complete the sweep against one of baseball’s best young teams.

New York Yankees fans had to sweat out a dramatic 5-4 win in 18 innings at Wrigley Field last night.

Yankees starter Luis Severino had a lights out performance on the hill going seven innings, with nine strikeouts, and one earned run. Severino’s fastball was clocking in at 98 mph. It was being paired perfectly with a slider that was bottoming out of the zone at 91 mph.

Severino would’ve been the story of the game… if not for an abysmal ninth inning from closer Aroldis Chapman. Chapman entered the game with a 4-1 lead, and after letting up two earned runs, he plunked Anthony Rizzo to tie the ballgame.

If Chapman didn’t blow the save, the Yankees would’ve completed the sweep in dominant fashion. The way the won took a little away from the fact that they just swept the current World Series Champions.

The bats weren’t exactly fun to watch as the two teams combined for 48 strikeouts. The highlights of hitting included a triple from the ever hot Aaron Judge, and a two-run homer by Jacoby Ellsbury. Starlin Castro  had the game-winning RBI in the top of the eighth inning.

The New York Yankees continue to be one of the best teams in baseball, but last night exposed their youth. Chapman blowing the save will have people taking about how the Yanks are easily exposed, and too young.

Make no mistake, the Yankees are here to stay. Completing the sweep against the Cubs, regardless of how, is huge moving forward.

Winning on primetime television for the second time this season is a statement from New York. The Bronx Baby Bombers continue their impressive run in 2017.
