The Nationals remain in the top spot of the NL East Power Rankings for as long as we have had the rankings this season. It looks like they will remain here for a long time as well. In a division filled with mediocrity right now, the Nationals are dominating week in and week out.

The Nationals are by far the best team in the NL East, and arguably the best team in baseball currently. They are tied with the Astros for most wins in the majors with 21. They are tied with the Baltimore Orioles with 10, trailing only the New York Yankees, who have nine, for least amount of losses in the major leagues at the time of this being written.

This week it was the pitching staff that got the job done. After scoring 23 runs against the Mets last Sunday, the Nationals scored only 26 runs in six games this week. That didn’t slow them down much, as they went 4-2, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phillies in series. The Nationals allowed six runs twice in their only losses of the week. In the four victories, the Nationals surrendered only seven runs.

If there is one thing that could hinder the Nationals is their centerfield situation. Their lineup is plenty deep with the likes of Trae Turner, Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy, and Anthony Rendon. But replacing Adam Eaton will not be easy.

Michael Taylor will be given yet another chance to do it and started off well. He went 4-for-8 to start the week with three walks. Unfortunately, he went 1-for-14 to end the week with eight strikeouts.

Washington could have to look outside the organization for help in center field. But, for now, they can wait out Taylor and hope he gets things turned around. That is a luxury you can be afforded when you are playing as well as the Nationals are right now.
