The New York Mets have placed starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud on the 10-day disabled list.
The injury bug has been feasting on the New York Mets this season. Starting pitchers Seth Lugo and Steven Matz have been on the disabled list all regular season. David Wright has as well and multiple more players have been placed on the DL since.
Arguably the two most important players on the team, left fielder Yoenis Cespedes and ace starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard are on the disabled list. Lucas Duda has spent time on the DL, in addition to Wilmer Flores. Now another starter will be joining his teammates on the DL.
Starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud was placed on the DL by the team this afternoon. MLB.com’s Annthony DiComo shared the news on his Twitter account.
d’Arnaud has been dealing with wrist soreness since mid-April when he injured it against the Philadelphia Phillies. The injury has kept forced him to be in and out of the lineup since and his production has really tailed off.
The 16-inning marathon game against the Miami Marlins and this injury have taken a toll on d’Arnaud. He is only 2-for-22 since the injury. Both of those hits came in one game against the Washington Nationals when he hit two home runs.
The plan, according to RotoWorld, is for d’Arnaud to be in a splint and shut down for a week before he resumes baseball activities. That means that he will be on the DL beyond the 10-day minimum stay. In his place, the Mets will have Kevin Plawecki and Rene Rivera splitting work behind the plate.
Injuries are a frustrating part of sports, and this one should come as no surprise. d’Arnaud has constantly been injured during his Mets tenure. He has missed large chunks of every season in the major leagues with 108 games being his career high. d’Arnaud also battled injuries while in the minor leagues as well.
While the slash line is tough to look at, d’Arnaud already has more RBI this season in 22 games and 59 at-bats with 16 than he did last season when he had 15 in 75 games and 251 at-bats. He also has tied his home run total with four.

For a team that is struggling to score runs like the Mets, losing that production will be tough to overcome. The injuries just keep mounting but they have to find a way to stay afloat until some players begin coming off the DL.
