The New York Mets have a huge come from behind victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday night.
The New York Mets have been scuffling recently. Injuries have taken a toll on the team as a number of important players in the lineup and on the pitching staff are sidelined. Starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud joined the extensive injury list today, which has added Yoenis Cespedes and Noah Syndergaard in the past week alone.
The Mets will hope that other players will be able to step up and fill the voids that are being left. One of those players on the mound is Rafael Montero. Montero took the mound Friday night against the Miami Marlins for his first start of the season; it did not go well.
The Marlins really got to Montero on their second time around the lineup. Marcell Ozuna got the first run off of him in the third inning with a RBI single. The Marlins would add six runs in the fourth inning, four of which were charged to Montero.

Montero finished the night with a disappointing 3.2 innings pitched. He allowed seven hits and three walks, resulting in the five runs. He also added four strikeouts. The final two runs of the inning were charged to Josh Smoker, who has given up a run in five of his last seven appearances.
The Mets were down 7-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. It looked like another lost night, but the Mets lineup was not going to go quietly. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Curtis Granderson hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 7-3; T.J. Rivera hit a home run in the bottom of the first to get the scoring going.
The Mets were quiet in the fifth and sixth innings, but then they exploded in the bottom of the seventh inning. New York would score five runs in the inning, as the first six batters all reached base. What made it even more impressive for the Mets is that they did it without hitting a home run, which has been a staple of their offense all season.
Rene Rivera, Asdrubal Cabrera, T.J. Rivera, and Wilmer Flores were responsible for the RBI in the inning for the comeback. The Mets bullpen was excellent after that fourth inning as they didn’t allow a run the remainder of the game.

It all resulted in an improbable come from behind victory for the Mets. It was not a pretty game, but a win if a win. The Mets have now won five of their last seven games as they are beginning to figure things out without some of their regulars in the lineup.
