Tight End, Austin Seferian-Jenkins

The Jets have received no production from their tight ends in recent seasons. Chan Gailey didn’t make it a big part of his offense, but what the Jets got out of the position in recent seasons was embarrassing. They had hoped that Jace Amaro would solve some of the problems, but he was a huge bust after being their second round pick in 2014.

The Jets tried their hand with another 2014 second round pick at tight end in Austin Seferian-Jenkins. The Jets took a chance on Seferian-Jenkins, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he was arrested for a DUI.

The Jets claimed Seferian-Jenkins hoping he could inject some life into the tight end position. He played in seven games with the Jets, catching 10 passes for 110 yards. That could be all the production he provides the Jets.

Earlier in the offseason, Seferian-Jenkins was handed a two-game suspension from the NFL. He violated their substance abuse policy, continuing a troubling trend off the field.

With Jordan Leggett now in the picture, the Jets should just cut bait on Seferian-Jenkins. Leggett is the future for the team at the position and could be the starter come Week 1. The Jets do not have much experience other than Seferian-Jenkins at the position, but they would be better off signing another veteran than hoping for a renaissance of sorts from Seferian-Jenkins.
