Wide Reciever, Devin Smith

The Jets had high hopes when they selected Devin Smith in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. They had acquired Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears and Eric Decker was already in the fold. Smith, they had hoped, would give them an added element of speed down the field.

Smith was a deep ball threat at Ohio State. He averaged an absurd 20.6 yards per reception at Ohio State; that is a deep threat every NFL team would love to have. Unfortunately for the Jets and Smith, he has not been able to showcase that talent in the NFL.

Smith has battled numerous injuries in his time with the team. He suffered broken ribs and a partially punctured lung in his first career practice. In November of his rookie season, he tore his ACL, which derailed his sophomore season. His third season in the NFL will be delayed, as it was revealed during the 2017 NFL Draft that he tore the ACL in the same knee once again.

Smith has suffered some really tough luck, but his Jets tenure could be over before it really got started. There is really no reason for the Jets to hold onto a player that will have only 14 games played in the first three years in the NFL.
