No. 188: Elijah McGuire: RB: Louisiana-Lafayette

Scouts rated McGuire as one of the best pass-catching backs in the draft and he could be a nice piece in Morton’s offense in certain sub packages. A physical runner that can pound the rock it’s clear that the Jets are looking to groom McGuire into a valuable offensive piece and possibly the feature back down the road.

However, with over 4,000 yards of wear and tear from college already on the tires, a major concern has to be his durability. A serious foot injury seemed to slow the runner in his senior campaign.

One thing that is always concerning in drafting running backs who had heavy workloads in college. While McGuire wouldn’t be the feature back and used sparingly in his first season, the injuries and wear are red flags moving forward.

Once again the Jets addressed a position where the had some depth rather than finding a project on the offensive line or another tight end for depth.
