No.141: Chad Henson: WR: Cal

For the second time in the draft the Jets selected a player at the same position with consecutive picks. The Jets accumulating picks wasn’t the problem, in fact it was a good plan, but the team made some peculiar picks.

With the news that Devin Smith will miss the 2017 with another torn ACL, drafting a receiver made sense. However, with a depth chart of Eric Decker, Quincy Enunwa, Jalin Marshall, Robbie Anderson, Quinton Patton, Charone Peake, and the previously drafted Stewart the receiving position is one of the few that has a plethora of depth.

Henson is a fine prospect for the Jets and should compete for the 53 man roster. He’s a highly competitive and coachable player that could develop into a solid possession receiver moving forward. A nice pick that could be a starter down the road, the issue is the other needs.

They passed on tight end Jake Butt, and talented cornerback Damontae Kazee who could have possibly been day one starters given the lack of the depth at those positions.

Henson is a good player, but with so many other needs this pick could have been used to address other key needs.
