Final Grade

Mike Maccagnan once again stuck to his best player available ideology and it did pay some dividends for the Jets. New York got one of the top prospects in the draft in Adams and landed a possible starter in Leggett on the third day.

However, with so many needs on the team, the Jets spent six of the nine draft picks on three positions. While the backend will be improved by two great safety picks, the fact that the Jets didn’t take advantage of one of the richest cornerback classes in years with the position being one of their top needs is concerning.

A big praise for this draft is that the Jets did not reach for a quarterback. With a weak quarterback class, New York did not reach or trade up for a signal caller. However, one pick I think they will regret is not picking Dalvin Cook in the second round. Matt Forte is over 30-years-old and Cook would provide another offensive weapon to help any quarterback that would be under center for the next few years.

Other criticisms include taking two receivers in the middle of the draft when the team had strong depth at the position.

Overall the Jets did find a few players that should make the roster and could make a big impact on the team next year. However, their grade is hurt by not filling other critical needs and drafting multiple players at the same position.

Not a bad draft for New York, but they weren’t one of the best team drafts compared to other teams.
