With the 39th overall pick, the New York Jets selected safety Marcus Maye from Florida. What is the reaction on Twitter to the pick?
After a solid first round for the New York Jets, they decided to continue to build their defense. After taking safety Jamal Adams in the first round, the Jets drafted safety Marcus Maye in the second round.
While the Jets had their issues on both sides of the ball, their coverage at times was extremely disappointing. They were frequently beat over the top for big plays, and they have addressed that issue in the first two rounds of the draft.
Last season, Marcus Gilchrist and Calvin Pryor were the starting safeties for the Jets. Coming into 2017, it could very well be Maye and Adams. Due to the Jets drafting two safeties, it is safe to assuming that Pryor’s days with the Jets are numbered.
Pryor was a first-round pick of the Jets just a few years ago, but he was one of the worst starting safeties in the NFL last season. Coverage was certainly a weakness of Pryor, and that doesn’t fly in the NFL nowadays.
While Gilchrist was one of the best players in the secondary for the Jets, that isn’t saying much. Gilchrist also might not be ready for 2017, as he is recovering from surgery. The possibility of the Jets getting rid of both Gilchrist and Pryor is strong.
On Twitter, fans were very happy with the first pick for the Jets. How did they feel about the selection of Maye?

As you can see, the responses were pretty positive. The Jets now have two building blocks at safety, and their secondary should be a lot better. Also, the Jets avoiding reaching on a quarterback in this round, which surely made fans happy.
With two picks in the third round, the Jets will have a few more chances on Friday night to add talent.
