The 49ers swapped picks with the Bears to get the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The 49ers took California boy Solomon Thomas with the third overall pick. The Stanford product is known to be a power outside rusher with unbelievable strength. Thomas is a three-point end with an unbelievable knack for stopping the run.

The 49ers defense has dropped off after a dominant run throughout the last few years. Bringing in an edge rusher like Thomas is definitely a solid move. They need a guy to bring back the 49ers defense of old, and Thomas could be that guy. The trade to get Thomas was also such a steal for the 49ers.

They dropped one pick down to receive a third and fourth round pick this year, and a fourth round pick next year. That is an unbelievable steal for San Francisco, and could potentially be the trade of the first round.

The 49ers not only filled their team needs, but received a bevy of picks in the process. Overall, well done by San Francisco.
