New York Giants Receive Low Mark in 2017 NFL Draft First Round Grades
By Nick Ziegler
This pick for the Browns comes as part of them trading the 12th overall pick to the Houston Texans. After making the wise decision to draft Myles Garrett first overall, the Browns surprisingly passed on a quarterback at 12 and traded the pick instead.
While trading down is usually a good thing, the Browns made an interesting pick at 25. At 25, the Browns selected safety Jabrill Peppers from Michigan. Peppers was one of the hardest prospects to judge coming into the draft, as he was used in multiple positions at Michigan.
Even though he played in multiple spots at Michigan, Peppers is going to be a safety in the NFL. The pick certainly fills a need for the Browns, but taking Peppers was a big reach. In addition to being a hard prospect to judge, Peppers also had a diluted drug test at the NFL Combine.
While at Michigan, Peppers was certainly a playmaker on defense and special teams, his ability to play in coverage is a question. It could be a difficult transition into the NFL for Peppers, but he certainly proved that he is a good football player at Michigan. Peppers might turn out to be a good pick, but it appears to be a reach with the 25th pick.
