New York Giants Receive Low Mark in 2017 NFL Draft First Round Grades
By Nick Ziegler
The Oakland Raiders took a gamble with their first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Raiders selected Gareon Conley, a cornerback out of Ohio State. The top CB would have gone earlier in the draft if not for an allegation earlier this week.
Conley was accused of rape earlier this week and his draft stock took an immediate hit. Although he has not been arrested or charged the allegations were enough to scare teams away. The Raiders obviously felt comfortable enough to select them with the 24th pick.
Conley will join Sean Smith and David Amerson to form one of the top cornerback trios in the AFC. Conley’s 4.44 at the combine helped him ranked as the third cornerback in the draft.
Many fans in Oakland might be angry the team take a gamble on Conley instead of taking Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster. However, after having a diluted urine sample at the Combine, Foster could be considered a gamble as well.
Conley will add another dynamic to an already powerful Raiders defense and will help them slow down the receivers in the AFC West.
