A+. . DL. Redskins. JONATHAN ALLEN

Arguably one of the best picks in the entire first round was by the Washington Redskins with the 17th overall pick. At this point in the draft, there is no way that the Redskins could have imagined a player like Jonathan Allen would still be on the board.

However, due to the first half of the first round being dominated by offensive players, it let a player like Allen slip to the Redskins. Coming into the draft, Allen was regarded as a Top 5 prospect, making this a total steal for the Redskins.

The defense was certainly an issue for the Redskins in 2016, but Allen should be able to help them in that area. As the anchor in the middle of a talented Alabama defense, Allen is a force. In his final season at Alabama, Allen totaled 12 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. That type of production from the inside makes it hard to figure why Allen wasn’t taken earlier in the draft.

As one of the worst teams in the NFL last season at defending the run, the Redskins will certainly improve in that area with Allen. Defensive tackle might not have been a huge need of the Redskins, but drafting Allen at this point in the draft is a home run.
