New York Giants Receive Low Mark in 2017 NFL Draft First Round Grades
By Nick Ziegler
After a trade with the Cleveland Browns, the Houston Texans made a big jump in the first round. For the past few seasons, Houston has had a major issue at the quarterback position. With an elite defense and some solid weapons on offense like DeAndre Hopkins, the Texans have been missing having a quarterback as the final piece to the puzzle.
Last offseason, the Texans signed Brock Osweiler to a big contract to be their franchise quarterback. Just one season later, Osweiler was traded to the Browns after an awful season in Houston. There was some hope in Houston that Tony Romo could be an option for them in free agency. However, Romo decided to retire, and the Texans didn’t have any other good options in free agency. With a dire need for a quarterback, the Texans traded with the Browns once again this offseason to get the 12th pick. After the trade, the Texans wasted little time to select quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson had a very good career at Clemson, as he finished his career with a National Championship against Alabama. While Watson had success in college, he also made a lot of mistakes which was why he wasn’t the first quarterback selected.
For the Texans, they need a quarterback desperately, and they were able to get an experienced starter in Watson. Overall, not too bad.
