New York Giants Receive Low Mark in 2017 NFL Draft First Round Grades
By Nick Ziegler
We have our second trade of the first round. The Buffalo Bills traded with the Kansas City Chiefs to move up in the draft. The Bills received the Chiefs’ 27th overall pick, 91st overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and the Chiefs 2018 first round pick.
That is a steep price, but the Chiefs had to pay as they moved up 17 spots. With the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chiefs used the selection on Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes was a lot of fun to watch running the Red Raiders Air Raid attack. He set multiple records and put up some gaudy stats. He is a gunslinger in every sense of the word. He can make all types of throws on the field, but there is some work that needs to be done. The Chiefs are an excellent landing spot for Mahomes as he will be afforded that time to grow as a player learning behind Alex Smith.
Mahomes will need time to learn an NFL offense. But, he is a hard worker and looks like he is willing to put in the work to become a starter in the NFL. Trading a future first always carries some risk, but if Mahomes can take over for Smith down the road it is a worthwhile move.
