New York Giants Receive Low Mark in 2017 NFL Draft First Round Grades
By Nick Ziegler
The 2017 NFL Draft has wrapped up the first round and the New York Giants were among the teams that did poorly in the first round.
The 2017 NFL Draft has concluded it’s first round, and teams are surely excited about their first round selections. Us here at Empire Writes Back will be handing out grades for all 32 picks in the first round. Our staff will be handing out the grades, and you can see who handed out the grade at the bottom of each slide.
Early on, it was clear that it was going to be a wild first round. The Chicago Bears wasted little time making a splash with a trade to move up one spot. After that, the chaos of the first round continued.
While some teams did well, others made poor choices in the first round. With that being said, here are grades for the entire first round, starting with the Cleveland Browns taking Myles Garrett.
With the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns made the wise decision to draft defensive end, Myles Garrett. Even though there was some late speculation that the Browns might take quarterback Mitch Trubisky first overall, they decided to make the smart move and take Garrett.
On most people’s draft boards, Garrett has been the No.1 prospect throughout the process. At Texas A&M, Garrett showed the ability to get pressure on the quarterback with ease. During the pre-draft process, Garrett also dazzled with an amazing 40-yard dash time.
The Browns surely have a need at the quarterback position, but they would have been reaching with the first overall pick. While their offense certainly needs a quarterback, they will be getting a great defensive player to help a defense that also wasn’t very good last season.
A rebuild isn’t going to happen overnight for the Browns, but taking the best player available is the right move. Garrett can come in right away and have a positive impact for the Browns on defense. While defensive end isn’t as flashy as a new quarterback, he can be a franchise player for the next decade in Cleveland.
