Michigan Defensive Tackle, Chris Wormley

The Giants lost defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins in free agency to the Indianapolis Colts. Hankins was a productive player for the Giants his first few seasons but struggled last season next to Damon Harrison. The Giants didn’t sign a veteran to replace him, so the draft could be where they want to go.

Wormley would be an excellent replacement for Hankins. He can help an NFL defense right off the bat with his ability to stop the run. That is exactly what the Giants need alongside Harrison, as they have defensive tackles in Jay Bromley and Robert Thomas to collapse the pocket.

Wormley was very productive at Michigan the last few seasons. He performed against the run and pass, tallying 84 quarterback pressures and 54 total run stops. What made that performance even better was that he was out of position playing defensive end despite standing 6-feet-5 inches tall and weighing 298 pounds.

That is exactly what the Giants could use on the interior of their defensive line. He can help out on the edge if need be, but he needs to improve as a pass rusher. He was reliant on his power in college, something that will not work in the NFL.

Even if he doesn’t develop his pass rushing skills, his size and athleticism will make him useful against the run.
