New York Jets Trade Down in Seven-Round Mock Draft
By Nolan Rich
Actions speak louder than words. The fact that the Jets have visited almost all of the top quarterback prospects before the draft says that they don’t have faith in Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg.
While the Jets could take a quarterback in the first round, the fact that this draft class has many questions at the quarterback position will have the team take a calculated risk and draft in the second round especially with the added luxury of the additional second round picks the Browns provided in a trade.
Mahomes may have the best arm in class showcasing his ability to throw almost eighty yards at his pro day. What makes a trip to New York more likely is that he was one of the last visits the team had before draft. Not to mention that the quarterback coach Mahomes wanted to work with this offseason is the new Jets QB coach Jerry Bates. .
Mahomes has the physical tools and arm to succeed at the NFL level. His leadership and toughness in college was well documented including a stretch where he played with a broken hand.
While he does have a gunslinger mentality and will force throws, Mahomes could develop for a season and has the potential to not only be the starter by the end of the 2017 season, but also the possible franchise quarterback the team has so desperately been looking for.
