Seventh Round Pick: Javarius Leamon; Offensive Tackle, South Carolina State

The Giants need to add help to their offensive line. The struggles of the offensive line are one of the reasons the offensive cratered last season. They were unable to open up holes in the running game and couldn’t give Eli Manning enough time in the pocket.

With how the draft fell, there wasn’t a chance to add anyone that could help immediately, such as Garett Bolles. So we have the Giants taking an offensive lineman in Javarius Leamon with their last pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Leamon originally signed with Clemson but did not attend because he was academically ineligible. So, the high-upside talent is definitely there. Instead, he ended up at South Carolina State. He started 29 games in his career, including all of the games the past two seasons so he has some experience.

As with many prospects this late in the draft, Leamon has a lot of work to do if he wants to become a productive NFL player. He has some attributes that can translate well to the NFL, as he has long arms at 35 ¼ inches long with good size and athleticism.

He has to improve his technique and play recognition, but that can all come with time. He is a clear development player, so the Giants will have to take their time with him. They have shown an ability to develop late selections in recent seasons, as Bobby Hart and Jerell Adams, a seventh and sixth round pick respectively, each had roles that expanded in 2016.
