New York Giants: Trading Up For O.J. Howard Isn’t A Necessity
The New York Giants are looking to trade up for former Alabama tight end OJ Howard. Although talented, he isn’t the player the Giants need in round one.
The New York Giants are on the way to becoming a championship team. The last few weeks, according to Mike Mayock, rumors have circulated that Big Blue is trying to trade up to draft stud tight end OJ Howard.
"If the Giants want Alabama TE OJ Howard, they’d better trade up. I don’t think he will be there at No. 23."
Are you kidding me?
Howard is very talented don’t get me wrong, but he isn’t a prevalent need in the Giants system. Iunderstand the heat that I’m going to get for saying this, but the Giants don’t need a tight end right now.
The Giants track record with holding onto good tight ends is almost laughable. Jeremy Shockey, Kevin Boss, Jake Ballard, Martellus Bennett, the list goes on. Why waste an early pick, and whatever the trade may be to take him, if odds are that the Giants will drop him soon after.
It is said time after time that the Giants just don’t draft well, and if Jerry Reese were to make this move, it would be horrible. A talented tight end isn’t the worst thing in the world, but the Giants need defense, or an offensive tackle.

Drafting a pass-catching tight end isn’t the right move. Howard is known as a liability on the offensive line as well.
The Giants need to find the right guy for them. Not the big name to please the crowd.
That player is out there, and Reese has to recognize that. Personally, the best fit to me is Zack Cunningham or Haason Reddick, but if I talk about them any more my head is going to fall off.
The draft is just days away, and if the Giants trade up for OJ Howard, it will only spell trouble.
