New York Mets Take a Slide in NL East Power Rankings
By Nick Ziegler
After three weeks, it’s clear that the Washington Nationals are the cream of the crop in the NL East early on. In the third week of the season, the Nationals made an early statement, as they were able to sweep the Braves on the road, and then handled the Mets on the road as well. A good indication of how good a team is is how they perform on the road. So far, the Nationals look like a team that can certainly handle themselves away from home.
After a down season last year, Bryce Harper is an early MVP candidate for the Nationals. So far this season, he has totaled a batting average close to .400, seven home runs, and 20 RBIs. In addition to Harper, both Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy are batting over .300 to start the season.
While the lineup has been good for the Nationals, the pitching staff has arguably been better. Of their starters that have made more than one start, the Nationals don’t have a starting pitcher with an ERA above 4.00.

The Nationals will have a full week coming up, as they start a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies to finish up their lengthy road trip. Following that, they will finally back home for another weekend series against the Mets.
