New York Mets Take a Slide in NL East Power Rankings
By Nick Ziegler
Last week did not end well for the New York Mets, and that continued into this week. The Mets wrapped up last week losing three straight games to the Miami Marlins on the road. The silver lining was that the Mets had a winning record on the road trip, but they certainly slipped up at the end of it.
New York returned home after a day off on Monday to start a series with the Phillies. Despite being home, the Mets lost two out of three games to the Phillies. Possibly with their eyes on the weekend series against the Nationals, the Mets didn’t handle business against the Phillies.
Even though it was early in the season, the Mets lost the series at home to the Nationals as well. The offense was a real disappointment against Washington, and that could be due to injuries. The Mets lost Lucas Duda, Travis d’Arnaud Wilmer Flores, and Yoenis Cespedes all to injuries this week.
Losing four key offensive players in the same week certainly explains the struggles of the Mets’ offense. The Mets will be hosting the Atlanta Braves to start next week. Due to the struggles of the Braves, the Mets must win that series. After Atlanta, another weekend series against the Nationals wraps up the week.
