Knicks Rumors: Boston Celtics Becoming More Interested in Carmelo Anthony
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Knicks rumors have been about what will happen with forward Carmelo Anthony this summer. Could a deal with the Boston Celtics happen?
After a poor season, there have been plenty of Knicks rumors about the NBA Draft, free agency, and Carmelo Anthony.
Phil Jackson made it pretty clear that the Knicks want to trade Anthony in order to get some young assets in return. Due to Anthony having a full no-trade clause, moving him is a difficult task.
Anthony surely wants to play in a big market, and also wants to win. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, a team that would be a good trade partner has emerged.
"According to an NBA source, the Celtics coaching staff was in favor of trading for Anthony at the trade deadline, but general manager Danny Ainge had too many reservations. One of Ainge’s concerns, according to a source, was an Anthony trade would have given Boston no real cap space to work with for the 2017 free-agent class. With the top-seeded Celtics possibly on their way to getting swept by the eighth-seeded Bulls, Ainge’s thoughts on adding Anthony could change this July."
As the No.1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Boston Celtics have lost two games at home to the Chicago Bulls. With the series shifting back to Chicago, the Celtics are in big trouble.
In recent years, Boston has done an excellent job stockpiling draft picks, mostly thanks to a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics also have a good amount of cap space but have yet to make a big splash for a superstar.
With a possible embarrassing first round exit staring them in the face, the Celtics could be ready to make that splash. While they do have the best odds to win the lottery this year, that pick is not going to be dealt in any possible trade for Anthony.

However, the Celtics do have some young pieces that could interest the Knicks. While the two teams might want to make a deal in the offseason, it will all come down to Anthony.
