The Yankees won their sixth straight game after a lights out performance by veteran starter CC Sabathia.

Yankees veteran CC Sabathia dismembered hitters today in the team’s 3-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Sabathia took the mound, and from the first pitch, he was in command. He struck out the first batter he faced, and would go on to have six more in the game.

The Yankees got all they could out of Sabathia as he went 7.1 innings with only one earned run. It was a performance most fans weren’t ready to see from the 36-year-old.

The Yankees notched their first run in the bottom of the first on the back of some errant pitching from opposing starter Carlos Martinez. After a pretty quiet afternoon, the game fell into the Yankees favor in the sixth inning.

The Yankees merited two runs in a wild string of events. Shortstop Ronald Torreyes hit a lazy popup to shallow left, but it was horribly misplayed by the Cardinals outfield. The ball dropped

allowing Torreyes to try for second.

He slid headfirst, reaching his left had out, and bent his body inward so Cardinals second baseman Jedd Gyorko would miss the tag. The play was reviewed, but Torreyes was still called safe.

The fun for the Yankees was only just getting started.

After Torreyes moved to third on a fielder’s choice, Aaron Hicks grounded a chopper back to the mound.

Martinez fielded the ball while falling over, and rifled one to the backstop. Torreyes scored and Hicks moved to second on the overthrow. Chris Carter then drove Hicks home on a single to left.

Tyler Clippard would come in to close the game for the Yankees.

Clippard gave up a solo shot in the inning, but that would be all as the Yankees would go on to win 3-2.  The Yankees will look to sweep the series tomorrow, and continue their winning streak. The assumed pitching matchup will be Michael Pineda against Adam Wainwright.
