The New York Giants are on the hunt for a new defensive tackle after losing standout lineman Johnathan Hankins to the Colts. Free-agent Jared Odrick is a possible option for New York to consider.

The New York Giants suffered a big loss, no pun intended, after Johnathan Hankins signed a three-year deal with the Colts, but there is a possible alternative still on the market.

Former Dolphins and Jaguars defensive lineman Jared Odrick is a free-agent, and could fill that hole in the Giants defensive line. Odrick isn’t going to be the same type of enforcer that Hankins was, but he could be a good second option.

In Odrick’s seven seasons he recorded five forced fumbles, 23 sacks, and 136 tackles, and has been known to be a run-stopper.

The interesting thing with Odrick is that he is capable of lining up on the edge. At 6’5″ and a whopping 301 pounds, he is very versatile. Whether he lines up over a guard or a tackle, Odrick could be a real hassle for offensive linemen.

If the Giants add Odrick it would be a good move heading into the draft. He could be a key piece in getting a better pass rush, but that’s if he shows up.

Odrick hasn’t had the flashiest numbers, but with the help of Steve Spagnuolo and his defensive staff, he could become an elite member of the Giants defensive line.

Overall the addition of Odrick into this defensive unit could be very important for the 2017 season. If the Giants can bring him in, it would allow for Jerry Reese to not have to focus on drafting a linemen this draft.

Odrick is going to be the fix the Giants need, but they can’t overpay for him. Odrick has all the potential in the world, and it would benefit him and the Giants greatly to bring him in for this season.
