Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer Monday night against the Boston Celtics.

The Brooklyn Nets lost on Monday night to the Boston Celtics. It was the latest in a long string of losing this season for the Nets, who are owners of the worst record in the NBA this season. But, Monday was a special night for the Nets and center Brook Lopez.

Lopez became the Nets all-time leading scorer on Monday against the Celtics. Lopez scored 25 against the Celtics, with a jump shot in the fourth quarter breaking the scoring mark previously set by Buck Williams.

Williams held the mark since 1998 when he wrapped up his Nets career with 10,440 points. Lopez ended Monday night with 10,444 points to surpass Williams.

Lopez was honored to break the record as he spoke about taking the No.1 spot after the game.

"“It’s a great honor, obviously a lot of amazing players have played here,” Lopez said. “I’m just proud to have my name up there with those guys.”"

Williams holds a number of Nets records, some of which Lopez should take down in the coming seasons if he remains with the Nets. Lopez has a chance to break Williams’ in games played, two-point field goals, and free throws made if he remains with the Nets beyond this season.

Lopez has had his name pop up in numerous trade rumors in recent years. The Nets need to restock their draft picks and get some assets, and Lopez is the best trade chip that the Nets have. He is their best player right now, but he could also bring back the biggest return package in a trade.

Lopez has remained healthy this season, which has been a big question mark in the past for him. That helped him break Williams’ scoring record, and could increase his trade value on the open market.

Lopez brings a lot to the table to like offensively. He has a polished low-post game and has expanded his shooting range beyond the three-point line. Lopez would be an excellent trade target for a number of teams, or a good center piece in the near future for the Nets.
