With the eighth pick in the mock draft, the Carolina Panthers will be getting some help for Cam Newton in the backfield. A few years ago, running backs in the first round were a thing of the past. Now, they are beginning to once again being taken in the first round, and the Panthers will be taking the first one in this mock draft.

While there is a debate between Dalvin Cook, Leonard Fournette, and Christian McCaffery, we have the Panthers going with Cook. At Florida St, Cook had a very nice career on a successful team.

In his freshman season, Cook was able to total 1,008 rushing yards, eight rushing touchdowns, 22 receptions, and 203 receiving yards. As a freshman, the numbers for Cook were very impressive, and they only got better. In his sophomore season, Cook totaled 1,935 yards from scrimmage and 20 total touchdowns. Last season, Cook was able to eclipse the 2,000-yards from scrimmage mark, and he made the decision to declare for the NFL Draft.

Pairing Cook with Newton looks very good on paper. Newton is at his best when the Panthers have a good running game. Also, Cook can help Newton in the passing attack. Even though the Panthers could use some help on the defensive side of the ball, Cook might help them control the clock on offense to keep the defense on the sideline.
